My Ink

On the 28th of November 1999 my journey with Sonic began. The year 2019 was the 20 year anniversary of that date and I felt getting Sonic inked would be quite fitting. As far back as 2014, I wanted to have ink, but, with the social stigmas and other negatives still prevalent in my country I had to time it correctly. When I moved to Cape Town in 2017, I had already made a decision, but the search for a decent studio, and a skilled artist took longer, a LOT longer than I anticipated.

The first piece, Sonic and Tails, was done on the 24th of January 2019, finishing with a mostly completed sleeve in 2023. Along the way, we added two other items on my left arm (Hello Kitty, Animaniacs). When time and funding is available again, I will finish the remainder (background, rings shading, etc...)

It has been a serious commitment in pain, rigorous aftercare, and having to look after my skin for the rest of my life to keep the artworks looking good. But it has been very worth it. The expressions of joy on the faces of kids and those young at heart when they see these tattoos always make me smile.
