Who is Sonic2k?
I am Sonic2k, in my early 50s, from a land far away in the Southern Hemisphere, in a place called Cape Town, RSA.
On the 28th of November 1999 a life changing event made me pick up Sonic The Hedgehog shortly after he exploded on the scene with the SEGA Dreamcast. Life, from that moment on, would never be the same again! The game changed my life, it is an exceptional title (despite the minor flaws), and over 27 years later I still feel the same way about Sonic. My handle "Sonic2k" I chose early in 2000, and I have used it ever since, for everything online including my Steam account.
Besides Sonic, I am very much interested in art, specifically manga, and I dabble in it from time to time as per my project art gallery. Professionally, I am a software developer / electronic engineer working for a large corporation, that's what pays the bills at the moment. I enjoy anime too, specifically K-ON and a few other series. Manga is a big influence on my work, as can be seen in some of my art.
I've been with Sonic through a lot of fandom ups-and-downs, and I need to be honest, the fandom itself is not really suited to me, which is why I tend to remain in my own little corner. It is also not any help that many Sonic fans are furries either, as the furry fandom is really just one big source of trouble; especially in recent years with scandal upon scandal and other seriously illegal activities- things I find absolutely abhorrent.
As anyone who has a lot of interests, would, I try and combine the things I am passionate about in one place; which is why the projects page has art, technology and code all rolled into one. Quite a spectrum indeed.
I am of the same view as many on Neocities; I am done with algorithms, social media, and "platforms"- all of it the money printing machines of greedy corporations that have totally ruined the internet as I, and many others once knew it- You see, I remember the old web, because I was there, as a young 26 year old with a shiny 33.6k modem. Someone that had just discovered Sonic. I fondly remember starting out on places like AOL, Yahoo Geocities, and being immersed in an internet that is now longed for, and called "The Old Web"
